Health Development Program (HDP)

Overview
LIAE’s Health Development Program (HDP) focuses on a wide array of health-related activities tailored to the needs of the communities it serves. Through its HDP, LIAE strengthens local partners, develops local solutions and works in remote areas often neglected by existing health and social service systems.

LIAE’s key health programming areas include:

  • Health Education
  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Clinical Services Provision
  • Structural Support (Community and Institutional Levels)
  • Nutrition
  • HIV/AIDS

Ongoing Projects under HDP

1. PSI/MULU/MARPS PROJECT

      • OFFICIAL NAME OF THE PROJECT: Mulu MARPs Project
      • PROJECT LOCATION: 14 towns of SNNPR, Oromiya and Gambella
      • PROJECT PERIOD: November 2012-October 2016

      • GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

The goal of the MULU Prevention Project is to contribute to the national target of reducing new infections by 50%, through delivering the following three objectives:

        • Preventing new HIV infections by reducing behavioral risk factors among most-at-risk populations and other highly vulnerable populations.
        • Strengthening   community   level   systems   and   structures   to   support   combination prevention.
        • Increasing the capacity of GoE to lead HIV prevention interventions that are based on the local epidemiology of new infections through direct support from PSI Ethiopia country office.

    MAJOR PACKAGES OF THE PROJECT:

    • Behavior Change Communications(BCC)
    • Health product distribution and promotion
    • Referral and linkages
    • Community level structures support
    • Gender and disability mainstreaming

  • TARGET BENEFICIARIES: Most-at-risk and highly vulnerable populations in 14 towns of SNNPR, Oromiya and Gambella.

    2. SRHP PROJECT

      • OFFICIAL NAME OF THE PROJECT: Promoting against HTPs/Vs Concentrating on Health Options and Involving  Community Engagement Strategies (PH-CHOICES)-Open Dialogue Program
      • PROJECT LOCATION: Analemo, Duna, East and West Badawacho Woredas of Hadiya  Zone, SNNPR
      • PROJECT PERIOD: April 2013-March 2014
      • VALUE OF THE PROJECT:
      • NAME OF DONOR: Kinderpostzegels Netherlands 
      • GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

The goal of the project is to increase access to quality, comprehensive and youth-friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health and Privileges (SRHP) information and services for girls and young women. The specific objectives of the project include:

  • Fostering Sexual and Reproductive Health and Privilege (SRHP) services and information that will lead to decreased risk of HTPs among girls and young women through provision of structured and skills-based services.
  • Enhancing commitment to and support for, the SRHP information and services for girls and young women.
  • Enabling governance, social and cultural environment to support the provision of comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Privilege (SRHP) education, and girls/young women-friendly services.
  • TARGET BENEFICIARIES: 9,180 girls and young women,  and 4,304 students.
