Genesis & History of LIAE
Key Program Focus Areas

🌿 Rooted in Community

In 2001, a group of passionate individuals led by Mr. Yohannes Amado Duba, Aklilu G.Michael Shomoro and 18 other founding members came together to form Love in Action Ethiopia (LIAE). Our Story: From Vision to Lasting ImpactIn 2001, Mr. Yohannes Amado Duba, Mr. Aklilu G.Michael Shomoro, and 18 founding members launched Love in Action Ethiopia (LIAE) after witnessing children in the rural Hadiya Zone learning under trees without classrooms, desks, or government support.Driven by sheer grit, the team initially operated on a shoestring budget funded entirely by personal contributions from members. They overcame relentless early hurdles, including widespread skepticism, failed fundraising, and walking miles on foot to meetings without basic communication tools. The turning point came in 2003 with a vital 150,000 ETB grant from SNNPR HAPCO. This breakthrough catalyzed rapid growth; between 2003 and 2006 LIAE secured six major projects including critical construction contracts that made its first operational peak.Today, LIAE is one of the leading CSOs in the country that driven by SMART strategies, organized transparency practices, and agile adaptability; what began as a grassroots effort to build basic school shelters has evolved into a powerhouse of community transformation.
